Miracles Happen… and Happen… and

Mormon Existentialism does not delve into the metaphysical, it promotes nature as the creation of Christ as God, it does not seek for signs or manifestations to know truth, it does not hold objects as sacred especially as deified other than that which is sanctioned as such, like the scriptures or hymns. The world of metaphysics and signs and symbols are generally left outside the pale in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a very “earth bound” Gospel and accordingly is such is the belief of Mormon Existentialism. Yet we do believe in miracles.

We believe that miracles have never been taken away from the earth, conditions might have changed, civilizations may have come and gone, mentalities might have changed, but miracles have always been and will always be. To look for the miracle one should not look to the sky and await a sign, no, one should search the very fundamentals of life and begin there to find miracles and if that is the case then one day, your miracle will be heavenward. To think how the spirit manifests in each of us daily- if we are to compare this phenomenon with the mechanical workings of the work a day world, what an incredible and extraordinary occurrence- for the Spirit of the God of the Universe to descend to each who seek Him on an individual basis. How much does this sound fantastical yet it is happening all of the time.

A mighty miracle is the change that comes over one, once in the gospel, lost for a time, lured by the noise of the world, lost in the mists of insecurity and doubt, unable to find a sure pacing and the iron rod forever out of reach. What a miracle it is to see an individual such as this, so ensnared, so bound by the cords of the adversary, to use the help of the Lord and the might of the Spirit to wrestle and to sever and tear free from the cords and to smash the chains from the all-consuming being. What a miracle it is to see that person, while shaking those cords and chains, while fighting to be free, to be fueled by the love of the Lord to do so.

This person has seen goodness and he has seen darkness and he knows and he embraces the Lord and holds tight to the Spirit of Truth as he begins to recognize it once more. Slowly, the light of Christ begins to swell within him, and it is not long, where once heavy shadows dominated that countenance, now there is a beam in the eye, a glow to the skin, a radiance from within that tells the world, “I believe in Jesus Christ, he is my Savior and through him all things are possible, even I am made whole and will dwell with my father once more thanks to his infinite atoning sacrifice.”

This is the greatest miracle of mortality, for one such as he, to have the spark ignited, to begin to recognize truth, to begin to live by truth, and to wear the countenance of Christ. We may not be a faith of metaphysics, but we are a people of a Gospel who believes and lives by mighty miracles day by day.

Thanks to my friend Daniel and the miracle he is. Peace and Love Brother.
